Anna BannisterMeet Anna Bannister, our March Teacher Spotlight!

How long have you been teaching?

This is my 7th year of teaching. I taught for 4 years at Honea Path Elementary. This is my third year teaching at Wright Elementary.

What are some of your favorite things about teaching?
  • I love helping my students experience or learn something new each day, whether it is reading them a new book, teaching them about how we can take care of our environment, or showing them how to write their name. It is always amazing what they are able to learn and take away from everything we do together.
  • I love seeing the growth children can make in the year I have them in my classroom. It is amazing to see how many things they are able to learn and accomplish by the end of the school year.
  • I love hearing the things five-year-old students say. I never know what I will see or hear each day. My students always find new ways to make me smile.
  • Another great thing about teaching is the school community. We are constantly surrounded not only by awesome children, but by wonderful colleagues. I've had the opportunity to work with many great educators. I have made so many great friends through this job.
What do you hope students will learn and take away from your classes?

There are so many things I would love for my students to take away with them at the end of the school year...
  • I would love for all of my students to show growth throughout the year and be prepared for first grade.
  • I would love for all my students to not only know how to read but also to enjoy reading!
  • I want my students to be able to communicate and collaborate with others around them.
  • I want my students to take away problem-solving skills so they will be able to solve all kinds of problems, those that they face in an academic setting and those they face in the real world as well.
  • I want my students to know that they are capable of doing anything if they have a good attitude and put forth their best effort.
  • Most importantly, I want my students to know that I love them and believe in them!
