ASD2 Notification of Positive COVID-19 Cases

It is important to understand how Anderson School District Two will communicate positive cases of COVID-19 as we go through the 2020-21 school year. When a student or staff member in one of our schools tests positive for COVID-19, they will be excluded and should be isolated at home for at least 10 days. School personnel will begin working on contact tracing immediately.

ASD2 will notify parents/guardians once a positive case is identified in their child’s class or classes. Parents will receive either a close contact notification or a not close contact notification. The identity of the individual who tested positive will remain confidential due to HIPAA regulations.

Close Contact Notification:  Anyone determined to have been in “close contact” with someone who has been tested as positive for COVID-19 during the time he/she was contagious must be excluded from school for 14 days.  Close contact is defined as being within 6-feet of a COVID-positive individual for more than 15 minutes (cumulative, with or without a mask).

Those determined to have had “close contact” while at school have been exposed to COVID-19 and will receive a personal phone call from school personnel.  Each case will be evaluated to determine the length of the quarantine period per DHEC’s guidelines.

Not Close Contact Notification: All individuals who have been in a classroom or other area of the school (including athletic fields) with a COVID positive person will receive written notification or notification through School Messenger.  Families of students will be notified to let them know a student or staff member with whom they have a class or an extracurricular activity tested positive.  Students/staff who were not in close contact as defined by DHEC will NOT be automatically excluded from school, but should be closely monitored for 14 days for symptoms such as fever, cough, trouble breathing, or loss of taste/smell.  Families should consider limiting contact between these individuals and high-risk family members.

Parents are asked to notify the school if they have a family member living in the same house and has tested positive for COVID-19. Siblings who reside with students who test positive and the children of teachers who test positive will be considered “close contacts” and must be excluded from school for at least 14 days. A negative test during this period of time does not eliminate the quarantine requirement.

To ensure that our staff, students, parents, and community is informed of the number of COVID-19 cases reported to Anderson School District Two  we will provide daily updates on our website indicating the number of COVID-19 cases in each school.
